Subject: [UVB] predation
Like lions around a water hole...
We have been fortunate (or unfortunate for the prey) to witness a sharpshin hawk take a common redpoll as well as a downy woodpecker and a Cooper's capture a common redpoll. There is no doubt that these predators learn where the feeder birds congregate and are, therefore, most vulnerable. I wonder if others have seen similar predation at their feeding stations.
Along with the 43 commons we had a single (that we identifies) hoary redpoll at our feeders on Saturday 26-March.
