A belated post, we had a Pileated woodpecker feeding on the crabapples in the tree in our yard. A great close up view! I've not seen this activity by pileateds at our trees ever before. Of note, it's a Snowdrift crabapple, which has very tiny orange fruits. We've had other birds, robins and wild turkeys, but never woodpeckers of any type eating them.
