During the daylight hours today, water levels were greatly lowered
along the Connecticut River bordering Norwich, and thus a considerable
area of flats became exposed. This evening Ed Hack and I looked for
birds from Campbell Flats Road and Pompy south along the river to the
area of Foley Park and the Ledyard Bridge. Among highlights were small
numbers of Killdeer, Solitary Sandpipers, and Least Sandpipers on the
Pompy flats where both an adult and an immature Bald Eagle were also
initially present. Elsewhere, two Common Nighthawks were flying about
as seen from Campbell Flats Road about 6:30 pm.
