This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, December 4th, 
2013.



At least 15 different SNOWY OWLS have been reported in New Hampshire during 
the past week including 1 in Merrimack at the Kollsman Sports Fields Complex 
located across from the Budweiser Plant on December 1st, 1 at Lake 
Massabesic in Auburn on December 4th, 2 at Pease International Tradeport in 
Portsmouth on November 30th, 1 at the Nashua Airport on November 27th, and 
12 along the coast in Hampton, Seabrook, and Rye on November 30th, but with 
re-sightings of at least 5 several times since then. One of the SNOWY OWLS 
sighted in Seabrook was identified as an individual that had been captured 
and released as part of a research project near Saskatoon Saskatchewan, 
Canada, on November 23, 2012.



2 female KING EIDERS were repeatedly reported from the Hampton Harbor inlet 
area during the past week. They have been seen in the company of COMMON 
EIDERS and SCOTERS. A BLACK GUILLEMOT has been reported several times in the 
same area.



A GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE continues to be seen with CANADA GEESE along 
Main Street in Berlin and was most recently reported on November 29th.



A BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen in Hampton Harbor on November 28th.



An ICELAND GULL was seen at Sandy Pond in Nashua, 1 was seen on Canobie Lake 
in Salem, and 1 was seen at Hedgehog Pond in Salem, all on November 26th.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen on Jenness Beach on December 2nd.



An immature NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen off of Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on 
November 30th.



15 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen along the coast on November 29th.



There were several sightings of PEREGRINE FALCONS, MERLINS, and NORTHERN 
HARRIERS from the coast during the past week. A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in 
Nashua on December 3rd.



6 immature BALD EAGLES were seen resting on ice on the Androscoggin River 
north of the Pontook Reservoir in Dummer on November 28th.



A female NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen in South Mill Pond in Portsmouth on 
November 30th.



A RUDDY DUCK and 3 GREATER SCAUP were seen on Long Pond in Concord on 
December 1st.



189 RUDDY DUCKS, 21 LESSER SCAUP, and a PIED-BILLED GREBE were counted on 
Canobie Lake in Salem on November 26th.



2 TURKEY VULTURES were seen in Exeter on November 28th.



2 GREAT EGRETS were seen along the coast in North Hampton on December 2nd.



An immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen in Hampton Marsh on November 
28th, and an adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen in Exeter near the 
Exeter River on December 2nd.



A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen in Hampton on December 3rd.



A RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET was seen in Rye on November 29th.



A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in New London on November 28th.



An EASTERN MEADOWLARK was seen at the Little River Salt Marsh in North 
Hampton on November 30th.



A CHIPPING SPARROW was seen in Hanover on December 3rd.
