This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, May 6th, 
2009.



An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER, 25 COMMON TERNS, and a PEREGRINE FALCON were 
reported from the Isles of Shoals on May 4th.



A SANDHILL CRANE was seen flying, from Mastin Road in Newmarket, on May 3rd.



A WHITE-EYED VIREO was seen near the Thompson Monument at Odiorne Point 
State Park in Rye on May 2nd.



A LAWRENCE'S WARBLER was seen on the edge of a field in the Lamprey River 
Preserve off of Packers Falls Road in Durham on May 2nd. A BREWSTER'S 
WARBLER was seen on Bartlett Drive, and 3 BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS were seen on 
Foss Farm, all in Durham, on April 30th. A BREWSTER'S WARBLER was also 
reported from East Kingston on May 2nd. 3 BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS were seen at 
the Deer Hill Wildlife Management Area in Brentwood on May 3rd.



A male HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen off Great Boar's Head in Hampton on May 3rd.



2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS were seen on the ocean from the south side of Great 
Boar's Head, and 2 GADWALL were seen in Meadow Pond, all in Hampton on May 
2nd.



A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Hampton Harbor on May 6th.



An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen in Newmarket on May 4th, one was seen at the Deer 
Hill Wildlife Management Area in Brentwood on May 3rd, one was seen along 
Route 1A in North Hampton on May 2nd, and one was seen on Island Path in 
Hampton on April 30th.



A pair of MERLINS was found in Concord on May 2nd and has been seen several 
times since then in the same territory. A migrant MERLIN was seen at the 
Deer Hill Wildlife Management Area in Brentwood on May 3rd.



11 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and 6 EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from 
Freedom on May 4th. 10 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen in Hanover on May 
5th.



A GLOSSY IBIS was seen near the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on May 
3rd.



10 FISH CROWS were reported from the coast on April 30th, and one was 
reported from Freedom on May 4th.



2 PURPLE MARTINS were seen at the colony site on the Maine - New Hampshire 
state line on Route 302 in Conway on May 5th.



2 PIPING PLOVERS were seen from Hampton Harbor on May 6th.



A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen at the Deer Hill Wildlife Management Area in 
Brentwood on May 3rd.



Shorebird migration is starting to pick up with 23 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 
31 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 10 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and 18 WILLETS being 
reported from the coast during the past week.



6 PIED-BILLED GREBES were seen at the Deer Hill Wildlife Management Area in 
Brentwood on May 3rd.



2 RED-NECKED GREBES were seen on Boston Lot Lake in Lebanon on May 2nd.



A WHIP-POOR-WILL was reported from Jefferson on May 3rd, one was reported 
from Somersworth on May 1st, and 3 were reported from Concord on May 1st.



Other early arriving migrants reported during the past week included: LEAST 
FLYCATCHER, ALDER FLYCATCHER, and SCARLET TANAGER.



A SANDHILL CRANE has returned to Monroe, where it has spent the breeding 
season for the last 10+ years running. It flies up from its roost on the 
Connecticut River early in the day and spends most of the day among the cows 
on the left side of Plains Road in the first fields that you come to. 
Sometimes it is found on the Vermont side of the river. It has not been 
reported recently.
