This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for June 30, 2008 covering the period
June 23 - June 29, 2008.  

 

The highlight of the week was a sighting of a pair of CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS
carrying food for nestlings in South Burlington on 6/23.

 

Two CASPIAN TERNS were observed at Delta Park in Colchester on 6/24.  One
CASPIAN TERN was seen at Dead Creek on 6/27.

 

A LEAST BITTERN was sighted on Grand Isle on 6/25.

 

A female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was spotted in Bear Swamp in Wolcott on
6/25.

 

A BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was discovered in a new Brandon location on 6/28.  A
hybrid LAWRENCE'S WARBER was seen in Saxton's River on 6/27.  A TENNESSEE
WARBLER was seen on Mt. Ascutney on 6/25.  

 

On 6/23 two ORCHARD ORIOLES were sighted in Colchester.  On the 28th two
nesting pairs were seen.  One pair had two nestlings and the other pair was
feeding one young oriole in a tree.
