This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Friday, March 9th, 2007.
An immature KING EIDER was seen at Plaice Cove in Hampton on March 4th.
A male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen in a flock of 100 COMMON GOLDENEYES at
Sewall's Falls in Penacook on March 4th.
A female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen just south of Concord Point in Rye on
March 4th.
A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen from Route 286 in Seabrook on March 4th.
An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Frost Point in Odiorne Point
State Park in Rye on March 4th.
An adult ICELAND GULL was seen off of Route 286 in Seabrook, and single
ICELAND GULLS were also reported from the Merrimack River in Nashua and
Manchester, all on March 4th.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Moore Fields on Route 155A in Durham, and one
was seen on Martin Road in Fremont, next to the cemetery, both on March 3rd.
12 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Ragged Neck in Rye, and a flock of SNOW
BUNTINGS was seen near the north end of Route 63 in Westmoreland, all on
March 4th.
20 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen in fields off of Route 108 in East Kingston, and
10 were seen at the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant, all on March 3rd.
45 HORNED LARKS were seen at Morrill's Farm in Penacook on March 4th. 50
HORNED LARKS were seen in fields off of Route 108 in East Kingston, and 60
were seen at a Dairy Farm in Stratham, all on March 3rd.
3 TURKEY VULTURES were seen in Keene on March 5th. 15 TURKEY VULTURES were
seen in Manchester, 3 were seen in Nashua, 3 were seen in Concord, and 2
were seen in Seabrook, all on March 4th. A single TURKEY VULTURE was
reported from Stratham on March 3rd.
2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from Weare on March 5th.
A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was reported from Manchester on March 4th.
2 KILLDEER were seen at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth on March 4th, and at
least one KILLDEER was reported from a Little River Road in Kingston on
March 3rd.
300 COMMON GRACKLES and 300 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS were seen at a roost in
Greenland on March 4th. A flock of over 50 COMMON GRACKLES was reported from
Manchester on March 3rd. There also were many reports of small numbers of
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS during the past week.
200 DUNLIN were seen in Hampton Harbor, and 180 were seen at Plaice Cove in
Hampton, all on March 4th.
2 NORTHERN FLICKERS were seen at the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant in
Exeter, and 3 were seen in Greenland, all on March 3rd.
2 BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen by a hiker in Crawford Notch on March 7th.
There have been a number of BALD EAGLE sightings from open-water areas
located throughout the state during the past week.
Several RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were reported during the past week.
Scattered sightings of RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS, CAROLINA WRENS, and EASTERN
BLUEBIRDS continued to be reported during the past week.
