Under gradually clearing skies and mild temperatures our group of seven birders found 39 bird species at Campbell Flats in Norwich, VT, this morning. Among highlights were a late Yellow Warbler and a lingering American Redstart. At least two Cape May Warblers remained. Raptors included Osprey, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, and an actively foraging Merlin. Cumulative estimates for sizable flocks of birds in the air totaled 270 for Canada Geese, 37 for American Robins, 125 for European Starlings, and 70 for Common Grackles. Also, among the migrant species encountered were 3 sapsuckers, 9 flickers, 4 phoebes, 2 Blue-headed Vireos, a photographed Swainson's Thrush, a Savannah Sparrow, 6 Swamp Sparrows, a Lincoln's Sparrow, a Scarlet Tanager, and 2 Indigo Buntings. A fine day for viewing fall migration! A full list of species and more details are at https://ebird.org/vt/view/checklist/S48819650
