This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, July 4th, 2017.



A BROWN PELICAN was discovered along the coast on June 24th, and was last 
reported on the 28th. It was later seen in Newburyport, Massachusetts.



2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen in a field on Deerfield Road in Nottingham on 
June 29th, and 2 SANDHILL CRANES are reportedly raising 2 young in Monroe.



3 MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen at their nest site area in Newmarket on July 
3rd.



An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was reported from the Oyster River Forest in Durham on 
July 2nd, but has not been relocated.



An adult YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was discovered in a small pond near the 
start of Sleepy Hollow Drive in Greenland on June 15th, was last reported on 
the July 2nd, and may still be present. There was a report of a 
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON in a pond along Post Road in Greenland on July 
1st, possibly the same bird.



15 PIPING PLOVERS were tallied along Seabrook and Hampton Beaches on July 
1st. Beach-goers are encouraged to give these small, endangered birds room 
to roam. The adults and chicks blend in with the beach, so please tread 
carefully!



3 pairs of LEAST TERNS were seen nesting on Hampton Beach on July 1st. Like 
the PIPING PLOVERS, these birds need space to successfully raise chicks.



3 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen at the Pease International Tradeport on July 
2nd.



8 NELSON’S SPARROWS were reported from the coast on July 1st.



3 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were reported from the Concord Airport on June 29th.



A pair of FISH CROWS is nesting at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye and they 
were seen apparently feeding chicks on July 1st.



10 PURPLE MARTINS were seen at Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on July 1st.



A few RED CROSSBILLS were reported from Canaan, Bradford, and Marlborough 
during the past week, and a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL was reported from 
Pittsfield on July 3rd.



2 EVENING GROSBEAKS have been seen repeatedly in Richmond during the past 
week, and were last reported on July 2nd. Another 2 were seen in New Boston 
on the 25th.



The Coordinated Nighthawk Watch in the pine barrens area in Ossipee, 
Madison, and Tamworth counted 11 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS on July 3rd. Please
