This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, October 30th, 
2017.



A TOWNSEND’S SOLITAIRE was discovered and photographed on the summit of Pack 
Monadnock in Peterborough on October 28th.



3 CATTLE EGRETS were seen at Flint Farm in Milan on October 25th, and 1 was 
photographed there on the 26th.



A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen from Carter Hill in Concord on October 24th.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen at Woodmont Orchard in Hollis on October 
27th. Also present was a VESPER SPARROW, a FIELD SPARROW, a flock of 76 
AMERICAN PIPITS, and a flock of 40 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS.



An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER, a PALM WARBLER, and a 
RED-EYED VIREO were seen at the south end of Odiorne Point State Park in Rye 
on October 29th, and a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, and a YELLOW WARBLER were seen 
in Hampton on the 28th.



2 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 7 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 3 GREAT SHEARWATERS, a MANX 
SHEARWATER, 1,591 NORTHERN GANNETS, 4 LAUGHING GULLS, and a SNOW BUNTING 
were observed migrating south along the coast in Hampton on October 24th.



6 BRANT, 440 BLACK SCOTERS, 281 RED-THROATED LOONS, 7,158 DOUBLE-CRESTED 
CORMORANTS, 4 RAZORBILLS, 4 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, a LAUGHING GULL, a LESSER 
BLACK-BACKED GULL, 3 CASPIAN TERNS, and

2 PEREGRINE FALCONS were observed migrating south along the coast in Hampton 
on October 29th.



2 juvenile COMMON GALLINULES, 9 AMERICAN COOT, an AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 
NORTHERN PINTAILS, and 2 GREATER SCAUP were reported from Eel Pond in Rye 
multiple times during the past week.



An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, and 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS were reported from 
Hampton on October 28th.



A GREAT CORMORANT and a DUNLIN were seen at the Wilder Dam on the 
Connecticut River on October 29th, and 3 BLACK SCOTERS were seen in this 
area on the 27th.



An EASTERN SCREECH-OWL was heard in North Hampton on October 28th.



RAPTOR migration is under way with migrating raptors being counted daily at 
the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and at the 
Carter Hill Observatory in Concord. Pack Monadnock has reported over 11,296 
raptors and Carter Hill has reported over 5,862 raptors, all since September 
1st. The majority of BROAD-WINGED HAWKS have already passed by, but there 
are still good numbers of SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, 
RED-TAILED HAWKS, and BALD EAGLES to be seen. Be sure to visit these New 
Hampshire Audubon staffed observatories this fall season to help out with 
the counts!
