I took notice of Bill Shepard's report of two bitterns seen along the Mystery Trail because I had yet to add one to my VT/NH list. Since I bird that area myself from time to time, I thought I knew where to look and so made an exploratory foray this AM. My first thorough scrutiny of the pond area revealed nothing. Before leaving I decided to push on a little farther to see the corner of the pond that was not visible from my previous vantage points. I did so and, Voila! The bittern flew up right in front of me.
   Thank you, Bill!
