This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for November 5, 2007 covering the period
October 29 - November 4, 2007.

 

Highlights this week include the continued presence of 4 BLACK VULTURES in
Brattleboro, last sighted the afternoon of 10/30 and a RED PHALAROPE in
Grand Isle on 11/2.

 

A very late-departing GREAT EGRET was spotted at Brattleboro Retreat Meadows
on 10/29.

 

A pair of RUDDY DUCKS visited the Colchester Pond Natural Area on 10/30.

 

A lingering EASTERN PHOEBE was seen in Bakersfield on 11/3.

 

NORTHERN SHRIKES were observed in Waitsfield, Lincoln, Montpelier, Norwich,
West Brattleboro, South Royalton, Brattleboro and Saxton's River this week.

 

A WOOD THRUSH was present at Woodside Park in Essex Junction on 10/30.

 

There were several sightings of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS this week, including those
in South Royalton (1 on 10/31, 15 on 11/1), North Branch Nature Center in
Montpelier (2 on 10/31, 18 on 11/1), Thetford Hill  (30 on 10/31), Norwich
(16 on 11/3) and St. Johnsbury Center (100 on 11/3).

 

A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was observed in Bakersfield 11/3.

 

A small flock of PINE GROSBEAKS was seen on 11/2 in West Woodbury, 1-2 daily
in Woodbury, 6 in White River Junction on 11/3, 12 in South Royalton on 11/3
and 1 in Huntington on 11/4.

 

SNOW BUNTINGS were reported in Bakersfield, Delta Park (35), Johnson (4),
North Branch Nature Center in Montpelier (5), Grand Isle (26), Shelburne Bay
(17), Colchester Causeway (50-60), Colchester Bike Path (10), Middlebury (1)
and Brownington (12) this week.

 

A COMMON REDPOLL was spotted at a thistle feeder in Bennington on 10/30 and
in Bakersfield on 11/3.
