This morning I stopped at the Woodstock rec center to scope out a flock of waxwings I saw in the top of the oak trees. I was looking for Bohemians, of course (and didn’t find any, of course), but what I saw was many of the waxwings were reaching up to “pluck” snowflakes out of the air. I hadn’t noticed this behavior before and thought it was an interesting way to get fresh water in the middle of the winter.
