I saw four or five of them foraging just across the river, on a bike ride along
River Road between Hanover and Lyme two days ago.

Coming out of the River Valley Club a few days ago, I was surprised to see four
Wild Turkeys crossing the road right at the exit from the parking lot. I
stopped the car, and they crossed in a leisurely, unconcerned fashion, as
thought they felt right at home in Centerra; two of them stretched their wings
overhead and posed for a moment.

On a bike ride up Bragg Hill Road in Norwich yesterday, there was a calling
Red-Tailed Hawk in a tree at the edge of an open field (when I stopped to take a
look, I also saw a Common Merganser in the nearby pond) and an accipiter
(probably a male Sharp-shinned) on the descent along Beaver Meadow Road.

About a week ago, on a bike ride along Dogford Road, a long procession of Wild
Turkeys crossed the road in front of me; it was a large (probably two dozen)
mixed group of adults and juveniles, and I had to stop my bike for some time to
wait for the entire cavalcade to make its way across.

A final query: as I backed out of my driveway several days ago, I heard the
last few words of a segment on New Hampshire Public Radio, the last sentence of
which mentioned ongoing efforts to induce more Common Nighthawks to breed in New
Hampshire. Did anyone else hear this? If so, can someone elaborate on the
content?
