Some interesting birds observed yesterday...
Camp Hill Road, Weathersfield
Red-tailed Hawk
Broad-winged Hawk
Least Flycatchers - 4
Great-creasted Flycatcher - 2 (Not a bad yard bird!)
E. Phoebe - Nesting above door
E. Wood-Pewee
E. Bluebird - Nesting in yard
Am. Robin
Veery - 3 to 4
Wood Thrush - At least 6
Hermit Thrush - 2: For the first time in years, we can hear five
thrushes from our porch
American Redstart - (2nd year male desperately trying to attract a mate)
Chestnut-sided Warbler
BT Green Warbler
BT Blue Warbler
C Yellowthroat
Chipping Sparrows - 3
Song Sparrows - Many
Field Sparrow - 2
DE Juncos
Scarlet Tanagers
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - Adult-plumaged M & F plus a winter-plumaged male
Am. Goldfinches
Pine Siskins (I don't think these guys know to go home)
Plus the usual suspects
We checked out the Bald Eagle nest at Springweather in Weathersfield.
We watched it for about 1/2 hour. It spent the whole time on the
nest, with no mate in site. Behavior included moving nest material,
preening, and panting. It did not get up and there was no evidence
of young at the time. Other birds observed here and across the dam
include:
Veery - at least 6
Yellow Warbler
Am Redstart
C. Yellowthroat
Savannah Sparrow
Painted Turtle laying eggs (Not a bird, but a neat sighting)
