This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, August 7th, 
2008.



3 MISSISSIPPI KITES are regularly being seen in Newmarket. There is a pair 
that is nesting, and they are feeding one chick. To see the birds, take 
Route 152 (South Main Street) west from the center of Newmarket. You will 
see the High School on the left (south) side of the road. Park at the High 
School and walk west down the street. Do not park in driveways, or along 
Route 152. The KITES have been seen flying and landing in the tops of trees 
between Maplecrest and Pond Streets. This is a residential neighborhood, and 
visiting birders should respect the rights of property owners. Please do not 
walk on private property, including lawns, talk and laugh loudly early in 
the morning, or block residents from using the sidewalk. Also, take care not 
to alarm the birds. Do not play recordings, stand under the nest, or harass 
the birds in any way.



A possible WHITE IBIS was reported from Concord on July 31st, but has not 
been relocated.



A ROYAL TERN was seen along the coast in Rye on August 2nd.

A FORSTER'S TERN was seen in Hampton Harbor on August 1st.

9 ROSEATE TERNS, 18 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 40 GREAT EGRETS, and 23 
SNOWY EGRETS were seen in Hampton Harbor on August 2nd.



15 CORYS SHEARWATERS, 1 SOOTY SHEARWATER, 6 GREATER SHEARWATERS, and 160 
WILSONS STORM PETRELS were seen on a Granite State Whalewatch cruise out of 
Rye Harbor on August 5th. A MANX SHEARWATER was seen from Seabrook Beach, 
also on August 5th.



A probable CORY'S SHEARWATER, 15 MANX SHEARWATERS, a BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE, 
and 158 NORTHERN GANNETS were seen off Seabrook Beach on August 6th. A MANX 
SHEARWATER was seen from Concord Point in Rye on August 3rd.



A LEAST BITTERN was reported from Pickering Ponds in Rochester on August 
1st.



A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen in Hampton Harbor on August 5th.



2 WHIMBRELS were reported from Plaice Cove in Hampton on August 4th.



30 RUDDY TURNSTONES were reported from along the coast on August 2nd.



A NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPRARROW and 134 SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS 
were tallied in Hampton Marsh on August 4th. A NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW 
was seen at Philbrick Pond marsh in North Hampton on August 3rd.



2 FISH CROWS were reported from Hampton Marsh on August 4th.



An immature BLACK GUILLEMOT was seen in Little Harbor near Fort Stark in New 
Castle on August 2nd.



12 LAUGHING GULLS were reported from the coast on August 2nd.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen on the State House dome in Concord on August 
6th.



A family of 5 MERLINS was spotted at the Bethlehem Golf Course on August 
6th.



2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, 7 BOREAL CHICKADEES, and 4-5 BICKNELL'S THRUSHES 
were reported from Little Haystack in Franconia Notch on August 1st.



A WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL was reported from Hampstead on August 1st.



2 BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen at Little Cherry Pond in Jefferson on August 
6th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from Strafford, and one was reported 
from Ashland, both on July 31st.



12 BOBOLINKS were reported from Signal Hill in Lebanon on July 31st.



108 TURKEY VULTURES were seen from Pickering Ponds in Rochester on August 
5th.



A flight of approximately 6,000 TREE SWALLOWS, with several PURPLE MARTINS 
and a few other swallow species mixed in was seen in Hampton Harbor on 
August 6th.
