This is a reminder that on Saturday November 5, 2016, Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire Audubon is to hold a bird walk in Addison County, VT. An anticipated highlight are the Snow Geese, last year numbering nearly 3000 and at times rising cloud-like into the sky. Other birds often seen on previous equivalent trips include a variety of raptors (sometimes including Rough-legged Hawk), a variety of waterbirds, and even late migrating shorebirds. Spencer Hardy will lead.

Carpoolers are to leave at 7:00 AM from the parking lot at the west end of the Ledyard Bridge in Norwich. If coming from Hanover, cross the Ledyard Bridge, take an immediate right turn at the traffic light, and then an immediate left turn into the lot. This trip is free and open to the public. All experience levels are welcome. Walking is over level ground. Bring binoculars and, if available, a spotting scope. Bringing a lunch and drinking water is recommended. Dress warmly as wind chills can be winter-like. The current advanced weather forecast is favorable, but in the unfortunate case of adverse conditions such as a steady rain or hazardous road conditions, this event would be canceled.

The carpooling group from Norwich anticipates reaching the goose viewing area of Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area along Route 17 in the town of Addison by 9:00 AM. We plan to return to the lot by Ledyard Bridge by 5:00 PM.

Information on Mascoma Chapter field trips as well as monthly indoor programs from December through April at the Howe Library in Hanover is available at www.mascomabirds.org
