This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, May 7th, 2018.



A SNOWY OWL was seen at Three Rivers Farm in Dover, and another was seen at 
Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, both on May 3rd. A SNOWY OWL was seen at 
Ragged Neck in Rye on May 1st.



A LITTLE GULL was seen with a flock of 300 BONAPARTE’S GULLS on Lake Sunapee 
on April 30th.



124 COMMON TERNS were tallied at Hampton Beach State Park, and 3 were seen 
at Jackson’s Landing in Durham, all on May 5th.



There was an unconfirmed report of a possible CATTLE EGRET in a cow pasture 
in Orford on May 4th, and a GLOSSY IBIS was seen along Trask Brook Road in 
Sunapee on May 5th.



A LITTLE BLUE HERON, an AMERICAN BITTERN, a SORA, and a VIRGINIA RAIL were 
all reported from the Dillant-Hopkins Airport in Swanzey, on May 5th.



There was an unconfirmed report of a BLACK VULTURE in Londonderry on May 
5th.



A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE continues to be seen on the Androscoggin River 
near the dam in Errol, and was last reported on May 2nd.



There was an unconfirmed report of 2 CANVASBACKS on the Swasey Parkway in 
Exeter on May 3rd.



Single GADWALLS were seen on Lake Sunapee and Hampton Marsh. And an AMERICAN 
WIGEON was seen at the Wilder Dam on the Connecticut River, all on May 2nd.



2 RED-NECKED GREBES and a BONAPARTE’S GULL were seen at Spofford Lake in 
Chesterfield, and a RED-THROATED LOON was seen on Lake Opechee in Laconia, 
all on May 5th.



An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, and 2 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were seen in 
Hampton Marsh near Little Jack’s restaurant on May 5th. 4 BLACK-BELLIED 
PLOVERS were seen in Hampton Harbor on May 4th, and 2 PIPING PLOVERS were 
seen at Seabrook Beach on May 3rd.



There was a second-hand report of a KENTUCKY WARBLER from the Great Bay 
Discovery Center in Stratham, a HOODED WARBLER seen in Exeter, and there was 
an unconfirmed report of an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER at Great Bay National 
Wildlife Refuge in Newington, all on May 6th.



A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW and a VESPER SPARROW were seen at the Concord Airport 
on May 3rd.



2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Lancaster on May 2nd, and 2 were reported 
from Penacook on May 6th.



11 RED CROSSBILLS and 2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen near the former 
Forest Service Ranger Station on Trudeau Road in Bethlehem on May 6th.



4 RED CROSSBILLS were seen in Moultonborough on May 1st, and 4 were seen in 
Stoddard on May 3rd.



4 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at Moore Fields in Durham on May 3rd.



Returning migrants reported in small numbers during the past week included: 
WOOD THRUSH, SWAINSON’S THRUSH, VEERY, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, ORCHARD ORIOLE, 
SCARLET TANAGER, BOBOLINK, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, RED-EYED VIREO, 
WARBLING VIREO, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, CANADA WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 
BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, TENNESSEE WARBLER, MOURNING WARBLER, PRAIRIE WARBLER, 
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, WILSON’S WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA, AMERICAN REDSTART, 
MARSH WREN, INDIGO BUNTING, LINCOLN’S SPARROW, and WHIP-POOR-WILL.
