This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, April 6th, 2015.



A juvenile RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was discovered near the public boat launch 
at Adams Point in Durham on November 10th. It has been seen numerous times 
since then, and was last reported near Jackson Lab on March 31st.



A SNOWY OWL was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on April 4th, and 1 was 
seen at Pease International Tradeport on the 3rd.



A SANDHILL CRANE was seen at Great Meadows in Charlestown on April 4th. Also 
present were a NORTHERN PINTAIL, and 100 GREEN-WINGED TEAL.



A male EURASIAN WIGEON was seen on the Connecticut River in Westmoreland on 
5th. Also present were 5 NORTHERN PINTAILS, and 6 AMERICAN WIGEON. A 
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was reported here on the 4th.



5 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen at Great Meadows in Charlestown on 
April 3rd. Also present were a GREATER SCAUP, and a LESSER SCAUP.



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was first reported from fields along Newington 
Road near Great Bay Farm in Greenland on April 3rd, and was still present on 
the 6th. A light-morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen here on April 4th, and 13 
SNOW GEESE were seen here on the 5th. Other birds of note seen here during 
the past week included: 27 WILSON’S SNIPE, 23 KILLDEER, 7 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 
a BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 2 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD.



A dark-morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen at Pease International Tradeport on 
April 5th.



2 CACKLING GEESE, 2 GADWALL, 2 NORTHERN PINTAIL, and 6 AMERICAN WIGEON were 
seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on April 6th.



A CACKLING GOOSE, 2 SNOW GEESE, and 25 KILLDEER were reported from Moore 
Fields along Route 155A in Durham on April 5th.



16 SNOW GEESE were seen in farm fields in Stratham on April 1st, and 6 
GLOSSY IBIS, 9 NORTHERN PINTAIL, and 9 AMERICAN WIGEON were seen in farm 
fields along Squamscott Road in Stratham on April 3rd.



2 SNOW GEESE and a BRANT were reported from Jenness Beach in Rye on April 
3rd.



5 BARROW’S GOLDENEYES continued to be seen on the Merrimack River in 
Manchester during the past week and were last reported from near Stark 
Landing on April 1st.



A female CANVASBACK was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Facility on 
April 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and 1 was seen on Great Bay on the 3rd.



6 NORTHERN PINTAIL were seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord, and 1 was seen in 
Rochester, all on April 3rd.



A pair of GADWALL was seen on Great Bay on April 3rd.



3 GREATER SCAUP were seen on the Merrimack River in Concord on April 4th, 
and a LESSER SCAUP was seen on the 3rd.



112 WOOD DUCKS were seen at Chapman’s Landing in Stratham on April 1st, and 
100 were seen on the Merrimack River in Boscawen on April 2nd.



Over 80 COMMON GOLDENEYES were seen on the Merrimack River in Concord on 
April 2nd, and nearly 400 RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen at Powwow Pond in 
Kingston on March 31st.



A PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen in Newmarket on April 3rd.



2 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen at Pierce Island in Portsmouth on 
April 1st.



A GLAUCOUS GULL continues to be seen at the Seabrook side of Hampton Harbor 
and was last reported on April 1st.



2 ICELAND GULLS, 3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, and 3 AMERICAN WIGEONS were seen at 
the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Facility on April 4th.



2 PIPING PLOVERS, and 60 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen at Hampton Beach State 
Park on April 5th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE, and a flock of 14 FISH CROWS were seen at Strafford 
County Farm in Dover on April 2nd.



BOHEMIAN WAXWING sightings continued during the past week and included a 
flock of 50 in Bedford on March 31st, a flock of 100 in Hollis on April 1st, 
a flock of 40 in Concord on April 4th, a flock of 35 in Penacook on the 4th, 
a flock of 71 in Penacook on the 4th, and a flock of 47 in Penacook on the 
6th.These flocks were seen mainly foraging on ornamental fruit tress, or 
resting nearby.



2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Bow on April 5th.



A flock of 40 COMMON REDPOLLS was seen in Lancaster on April 6th. Small 
numbers were reported from scattered locations.



2 PALM WARBLERS were seen in Rochester on April 5th, and 1 was seen in 
Concord on the 6th. A PINE WARBLER was reported from Peterborough on the 
4th.



2 FISH CROWS were reported from Wolfeboro on April 5th,  and 7 were reported 
from Laconia on the 5th, 3 were reported from Hampton on the 4th, and 1 was 
reported from Durham on the 6th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen at Chapman’s Landing in Stratham on April 3rd, 
and an AMERICAN PIPIT, a RUSTY BLACKBIRD, and an EASTERN MEADOWLARK were 
seen here on the 5th.



2 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS were seen in Penacook on April 4th.



15 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen in a field in Westmoreland on April 4th.



35 TURKEY VULTURES were seen roosting together in Nashua on April 2nd.



There were scattered reports of small numbers of early returning migrants 
during the past week, including: AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, WILSON’S SNIPE, 
KILLDEER, EASTERN PHOEBES, TREE SWALLOWS, FOX SPARROWS, SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 
HERMIT THRUSHES, RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, COMMON GRACKLES, 
BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS, GREAT BLUE HERONS, GREAT EGRETS, TURKEY VULTURES, 
OSPREYS, RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, NORTHERN HARRIERS, MERLINS, RING-NECKED 
DUCKS, HOODED MERGANSERS, WOOD DUCKS, and YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS
