The light phase Rough-legged Hawk first reported by Sara Eisenhauer
this morning was still in the same area at 12:53 PM. The hawk was
flying back and forth around a line of trees along the boundary
between Norwich and Thetford and thus visible from Windsor County and
potentially from Orange County as well.

My observations of the Rough-leg in flight were made from Norwich
while my vehicle was parked pointed westward along the north side of
Stevens Road where it passes through a section of Northeast Corner
Farm and just to the east of the right angle bend after which Stevens
Road goes uphill northward into Thetford. This observation point is
just off to the west of Route 5.

The Rough-legged Hawk has been a rarity in the Upper Valley at least
in recent years, and special thanks go to Sara for alerting us via UVB
about this unusual bird.
