This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, October 4th,
2007.
A probable female PAINTED BUNTING was seen at a private residence on Clinton
Street in Concord on October 1st, but has not been relocated.
A NORTHERN FULMAR was reported from a Whale Watch out of Rye on September
30th.
2 CASPIAN TERNS were seen from Great Boar's Head in Hampton on September
29th.
A LITTLE GULL and a HARLEQUIN DUCK were seen along Foss Beach in Rye on
September 30th.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the entrance to Rye Harbor on
September 30th.
A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, a DICKCISSEL, 2 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS, 2 TENNESSEE
WARBLERS, and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen on Star Island, one of the Isles
of Shoals, on September 30th.
A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was seen in the Woodridge Recreation Area, located off
of Fogg Road in Durham, on September 28th. A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen
in the same area on October 4th.
An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen at the fields located behind the Post
Office on Loudon Road in Concord on October 2nd, one was seen at the
Applebrook Inn in Jefferson on September 30th, one was seen at Pondicherry
Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson, also on the 30th, and one was seen at Airport
Marsh in Whitefield on the 30th.
A NORTHERN SHOVELER and an AMERICAN COOT were seen at the Exeter Wastewater
Treatment Facility on October 1st.
A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was seen at the Landing Road pools in Hampton, and one
was seen on Star Island in Rye, both on September 30th.
An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and a NORTHERN PINTAIL were seen at the Rochester
Waste Water Treatment Plant on October 1st. The treatment plant is gated and
the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check
in at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do
not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block
the road.
A SORA, 5 SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, and 20 NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED
SPARROWS were seen in Hampton Marsh on October 3rd.
15 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen by the side of the road near the National Guard
building on Regional Drive in Concord on September 28th.
A male SPRUCE GROUSE was seen at Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge on
the trail located on the east side of Route 16 in Wentworth's Location on
September 30th.
4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen on Dead Diamond Road in the Second College
Grant on September 30th, and one was seen in the Shirkin Road swamp in
Fremont on September 28th.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER and an EVENING GROSBEAK were reported from the
Trudeau Road trails in Bethlehem on September 30th. An EVENING GROSBEAK was
also reported from Etna on the 30th.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, a GRAY JAY, and 5 BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen on
the Caps Ridge Trail on Jefferson Notch Road on September 30th.
HAWK migration continues with 9.461 raptors reported from the Pack Monadnock
Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough since September 1st. Be sure to
visit the observatory to help out with the count!
