I had a number of Red Polls (approx 10-15) happily feeding today at my thistle feeder and black oiled sunflower and sunflower hearts feeder at approx. 1:40 PM. Then all of a sudden all the birds disappeared. A Northern Shrike landed on the hook holding the sunflower seed feeder which is on my deck. We got a nice close look. What a nice looking bird. I was not able to get a picture of him, but I am sure he will be back. Soon the Chickadees were eating again as well as the Pine Grosbeaks, and the American Tree Sparrows. The Red Polls returned later to my Thistle sock feeder which hangs in my large Maple tree that is between the house and the garage. At 3 PM I noticed one Redpoll eating from the thistle feeder on the deck opposite the other feeder.
  I had 7 Mourning Doves
          5 American Tree Sparrows
20 Chickadees (Usual number for me)
          10 - 15 Red Polls ( I have had as many as 40 +)
          1 Red Breasted Nuthatch
          1 White Breasted Nuthatch
           Several Downy Woodpeckers
           1 M & 1 F Hairy Woodpecker
           2M & 1 F Pine Grosbeak ( Have had as many as 4M)
            Several Blue Jays

I will have to keep my camera handy for the possible sightings of the Northern Shrike and rosy Red Polls.
