This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Monday, May 19th, 2014.



2 SANDHILL CRANES have returned to their summering grounds in Monroe and can 
sometimes be seen in fields along the Connecticut River north of town and 
also in fields along Plains Road.



A LITTLE BLUE HERON and a GLOSSY IBIS were seen at Chapman’s Landing in 
Stratham on May 16th.



A LEAST BITTERN, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a BONAPARTE’S GULL, and 5 
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were reported from the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on 
May 17th.



22 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen on Lake Massabesic in Auburn, and 2 were 
seen on Powdermill Pond in Hancock, all on May 16th.



2 RED-THROATED LOONS were seen migrating along the coast on May 18th.



An ICELAND GULL was seen in Rockingham Park in Salem, and a LAUGHING GULL 
was seen along the coast in Rye, both on May 17th.



A LEAST TERN and at least 2 ROSEATE TERNS were seen in Hampton Harbor on May 
17th.



5 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen near Short Street at the Pease International 
Tradeport on May 17th.



A flock of PURPLE SANDPIPERS was seen on the breakwater at the entrance to 
Hampton Harbor on May 17th.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was reported from Arboretum Drive near the north end 
of the Pease International Tradeport runways, and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was 
reported from the Concord Airport, both on May 17th.



There was an unconfirmed report of a WORM-EATING WARBLER in Peterborough on 
May 17th.



A MOURNING WARBLER was seen in Salem on May 18th and 19th, and one was 
reported from Durham on the 19th.



A CAPE MAY WARBLER was seen in Penacook, and 2 TENNESSEE WARBLERS were 
reported from Rumney, all on May 18th.



A TENNESSEE WARBLER, and a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO were reported from Hinsdale 
on May 17th.



Several BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS were reported during the past week, including 7 
at Southwest Park in Nashua on May 18th.



A PURPLE MARTIN was seen along Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on May 17th.



CLIFF SWALLOWS are again nesting at Fort Constitution in New Castle.



An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was reported from Pittsfield on May 17th.



A few EASTERN WOOD-PEWEES, ALDER FLYCATCHERS, and WILLOW FLYCATCHERS have 
arrived at last from their wintering grounds during the past week.



A pair of BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS was seen along Trudeau Road in Bethlehem 
on May 17th.



A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in New London on May 16th.



A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was reported from Whipple Road in Jefferson on May 
17th.



A SORA was heard at a marsh in Canterbury, and 1 was heard at a marsh in 
Salem, both on May 17th.



There were several reports of COMMON NIGHTHAWKS and EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILLS 
during the past week.
