2016.
A SNOWY OWL was seen in Rye on January 22nd. When viewing a Snowy Owl please
do not disturb the bird by approaching too closely, and please respect

A NORTHERN SHRIKE, and 2 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS were reported from the
Strafford County Farm on January 22nd. They were seen in fields near the
Cocheco Humane Society in Dover.
4 PINE GROSBEAKS were seen in Temple on January 23rd.
4 RED CROSSBILLS were seen along Route 302 in Bethlehem near the Zealand
campground, and several WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen at Trudeau Road in
Bethlehem, all on January 24th.
A flock of 60 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen in Gorham on January 24th.
6 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen on Chickwolnepy Road in Milan on January 24th.
48 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on January 24th.
A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Hampton Harbor on January 25th.
An ICELAND GULL was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on January
22nd and 25th.
A pair of BARROW’S GOLDENEYES was seen from behind 250 Commercial Street on
the Merrimack River in Manchester on January 21st and 22nd.
A pair of GADWALL was seen at Great Island Common in New Castle on January
23rd.
A pair of NORTHERN PINTAILS, 2 LESSER SCAUP, 2 GREATER SCAUP, and a female
AMERICAN WIGEON were all seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant
during the past week.
A male WOOD DUCK was seen on the Nashua River in Nashua on January 23rd.
8 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen in Rye Harbor on January 25th.
A PINE WARBLER was seen in Derry on January 23rd.
A BROWN THRASHER continues to be seen near the Hollis High School and was
last reported on January 24th.
A GRAY CATBIRD was seen at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth on
January 23rd.
A few TURKEY VULTURES were reported from the southeast part of the state
during the past week including 8 in Newmarket, and 4 in Kensington.
An AMERICAN KESTREL was seen at Woodmont Orchard in Hollis on January 21st.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in downtown Nashua on January 24th.
A BALD EAGLE was seen in Berlin, and a pair was seen in Orford, all on
January 25th.
There were several reports of resident owl species during the past week
including BARRED OWL, GREAT HORNED OWL, EASTERN SCREECH-OWL, and NORTHERN
SAW-WHET OWL.
Additional lingering species that normally would have migrated south by now
but were reported during the past week include: DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT,
GREAT BLUE HERON, BELTED KINGFISHER, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, NORTHERN
FLICKER, EASTERN PHOEBE, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, HERMIT THRUSH, YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLER, CHIPPING SPARROW, RUSTY BLACKBIRD, COMMON GRACKLE, BROWN-HEADED
COWBIRD, and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD.
