This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, October 11th,
2007.
A probable HENSLOW'S SPARROW was seen at Moore Fields on Route 155A in
Durham on October 7th. Also seen was a LAPLAND LONGSPUR, 225 AMERICAN
PIPITS, 25 HORNED LARKS, and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS. An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER
was seen here on the 8th.
A BARNACLE GOOSE was seen migrating with a flock of CANADA GEESE from Rye on
October 7th. Also seen was a SNOW GOOSE, 23 NORTHERN PINTAILS, over 4,000
SCOTERS, 322 COMMON LOONS, 115 NORTHERN GANNETS, 15 PEREGRINE FALCONS, and 6
LAUGHING GULLS.
A WHITE-EYED VIREO was seen at the south end of Odiorne Point State Park in
Rye on October 6th. A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was also seen at Frost Point.
A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen was seen in the Woodridge Recreation Area,
located off of Fogg Road in Durham on October 4th and 5th.
A BOHEMIAN WAXWING was reported from the Watts Sanctuary in Effingham on
October 6th.
A LITTLE GULL was seen off of Foss Beach in Rye on October 6th.
6 NORTHERN FULMARS, 60 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 30 NORTHERN GANNETS, and a
BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE were seen on a Whale Watch boat that put out from Rye
Harbor on October 6th.
A NORTHERN FULMAR, 12 GREATER SHEARWATERS, a CAPE MAY WARBLER, a GRASSHOPPER
SPARROW, a NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW, and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were all
seen on or near Star Island (one of the Isles of Shoals) in Rye on October
5th.
2 REDHEADS were seen on Great Bay on October 8th.
2 GADWALL were reported from Little Cherry Pond and180 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS
and 80 BLACK SCOTERS were seen on Cherry Pond in Jefferson, all on October
7th.
A STILT SANDPIPER and 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen at the Rochester Waste
Water Treatment Plant on October 9th. The treatment plant is gated and the
hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in
at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not
have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the
road.
A HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 300 SANDERLINGS, 200 DUNLIN, 100 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS,
60 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 165 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, an AMERICAN GOLDEN
PLOVER, 6 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and a BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON were all seen in Hampton Harbor and the surrounding marshes on
October 8th.
20 SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, 23 NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, and a
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO were all seen in Hampton Marsh on October 5th.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was reported from the Whitefield Airport on October 7th.
70 AMERICAN PIPITS, a VESPER SPARROW, and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD were seen in the
fields behind the Concord Post Office on Loudon Road on October 9th.
2 EASTERN SCREECH-OWLS were heard in South Hampton on October 8th.
53 PALM WARBLERS, 126 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 3 BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLERS, a NASHVILLE WARBLER, and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER were all reported
from the Freedom Town Forest on October 6th.
HAWK migration continues with 9,808 raptors reported from the Pack Monadnock
Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough since September 1st. Be sure to
visit the observatory to help out with the count!
