This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, April 16th, 
2018.



A NORTHERN WHEATEAR was reported from Moore Fields on Route 155A in Durham 
on April 4th, and was relocated in fields along the Oyster River Forest in 
Durham on the 14th and 15th. To look for the bird, park at the trailhead 
near the Lee town line on Packers Falls Road, walk north about one-half 
mile, and search the surrounding fields.



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen in Effingham on April 10th, and 
possibly the same individual was seen at Sherman’s Farm in East Conway on 
the 11th.



A TUNDRA SWAN was seen on Newfound Lake on April 9th and 11th but has not 
been relocated.



2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen in fields along Ledge Farm Road near Route 156 
in Nottingham on April 12th.



2 BLACK VULTURES were seen in Nashua on April 10th, and 2 were seen in 
Portsmouth on the 13th.



A SNOWY OWL was seen near Rye Harbor State Park on April 14th, and 1 was 
seen in Portsmouth on the 11th.



A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues to be seen near 31 Goddard Road in Rindge 
and was last reported on April 13th.



24 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS and 9 LAUGHING GULLS were tallied on the coast 
on April 16th.



72 BONAPARTE’S GULLS and a SURF SCOTER were seen on Spofford Lake in 
Chesterfield on April 15th.



A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen on the Androscoggin River in Errol on 
April 11th.



 A male BLUE-WINGED TEAL was seen in North Hampton on April 10th.



3 RED-NECKED GREBES, a LONG-TAILED DUCK, and a pair of BUFFLEHEADS were seen 
on Turtle Pond in Concord on April 12th.

3 RED-NECKED GREBES, 3 GREATER SCAUP, and a FISH CROW were reported from the 
Connecticut River in Hinsdale, and 7 RED-NECKED GREBES, 3 GREATER SCAUP, and 
a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER were seen at Kilowatt South Park on the Connecticut 
River, all on April 12th. 6 BUFFLEHEADS, 22 GREATER SCAUP, and a GADWALL 
were seen here on the 14th, and a LONG-TAILED DUCK was seen here on the 
15th. A pair of NORTHERN PINTAILS was seen on the Connecticut River in 
Hanover on the 13th.



20 BRANT were seen in Rye Harbor on April 16th.



A GLOSSY IBIS was seen on Wetherby Road in Charlestown on April 15th, and a 
SNOWY EGRET was seen in Rye on April 10th.



A PIPING PLOVER was seen at Hampton Beach State Park, and 19 PURPLE 
SANDPIPERS were seen along the coast, all on April 14th.



3 RED CROSSBILLS were reported from Hillsborough on April 10th, and 1 was 
reported from Cornish on the 13th.



3 FISH CROWS were reported from the coast on April 14th.



Early returning migrants reported during the past week included 
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, 
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, BARN SWALLOW, EASTERN KINGBIRD, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, 
BROWN THRASHER, GRAY CATBIRD, FIELD SPARROW, VESPER SPARROW, EASTERN 
MEADOWLARK, and EASTERN TOWHEE.
