Headed off yesterday am.. official start 4:38am in Post Mills.
My route is 50 stops, 25 miles. I start in Post Mills and wiggle around
Lake Fairlee then down Rt5, up toward 91, down Godfrey Rd, down Union
Village Rd, and ending up past Huntley Meadows.
3 Minutes at each stop, once a year.
Nothing unusual... it is essentially a "window" or "snapshot" of who is
breeding. The route has been done since 1969. There may be other routes for
anyone of y'all... around VT-NH !! ??
Highlights: Tim Taylor of Crossroads Farm joined me.
67 species. Wood Duck,Mallard, Broad-w Hawk on the power lines at 91.
bunch of Alder Flycatchers, 2 Least, a few Warbling Vireos. Highlight was
the many Red-eyed Vireos... almost every stop had 1-2 !! 11 warblers.. 4 No
Parulas. Some Bobolinks and Savannah Sparrows. etc !!
"just a route-tine" morning out doing some birding.... other routes may be
available !
Had a Eastern Towhee at the field across from our house in Thetford last
night... my first of the year !
