Today I took a walk from about 5 - 6:30 pm along Mink Brook between Rt 10
and its confluence with the Connecticut.
In the wide reach of the brook before the wastewater treatment facility I
saw:

-3 pairs of Common Mergansers
-3 pairs of Hooded Mergansers at least
-1 pair of Red-breasted Mergansers
-2 pairs of Canada Geese
-several pairs of Mallards
-1 male Belted Kingfisher

Out in the river itself there were more mergansers, mallards, and geese.

There were also two beavers in the brook, one of which was enjoying munching
on twigs and the bark of a fallen yellow birch. The other slapped its tail a
few times, apparently at the other beaver which it soon swam away from. It
may have been directed at me, but during their brief confrontation I was
quite far away.
