Today, around 2 o'clock, I had two male and two female White-winged Crossbills
on McKenna Rd (at the VT side of Ledyard Bridge). They were perched in clear view
at the top of a bare deciduous tree and repeatedly gave their "tyik-tyik" call.
Also seen:
16 pine siskins (they appeared to be feeding on cedar cones. is this a usual food
source for siskins?)
2 american goldfinches
12+ cedar waxwings
multiple dark-eyed juncos
1 crisp 1st winter white-throated sparrow
1 mourning dove
1 no. cardinal
numerous BCCHs
1 downy woodpecker
and 1 juvenile red-tailed hawk
Also, the adult female (in winter plumage) long-tailed duck was first seen from
Ledyard Canoe Club on 10/24.
Cheers,
Charlie
