On a somewhat chilly morning, a good turnout of birders participated today in a Windsor County 2016 Birding Quest bird walk at Lake Runnemede in Windsor, VT. Among more than two dozen bird species found, waterfowl included Canada Goose, Wood Duck, American Black Duck, Ring-necked Duck, and Common Merganser. An adult Bald Eagle perched among pines to the west of the lake provided superb views. Other birds of interest included 5 species of woodpeckers and a Golden-crowned Kinglet. Among the different kinds of sparrows were American Tree Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos, and singing Song Sparrows, with song of a White-throated Sparrow being especially notable this early in the spring season. American Robins and North Cardinals helped to provide a nice background chorus during this morning’s walk.
