Two years ago, a bear did visit my feeders and yes, he bent pipes and destroyed one of them. However, the timing was that I was late in refilling the feeders. The bear never came back!

Well, the last time our bird feeders in the village of Norwich were raided by a bear (maybe 10 years ago?), it was in broad daylight, so taking them in at night doesn't guarantee the bears won't visit you. Bears can be quite destructive when raiding bird feeders, and usually go for a brute force attack. You'll likely lose the feeder itself, and perhaps whatever hanging mechanism you have as well.

Leaving the feeders up at this time of year emboldens emerging, hungry bears to frequent peoples' houses, which is bad for the bears and for people.

For the sake of the incoming birds, maybe just take the feeders in at night?
