This morning under overcast skies, ten observers participated in a
2013 Windsor County Birding Quest walk within the village of Wilder,
VT, including views downstream below the Wilder Dam. Large numbers of
ducks, totaling over 240, some unidentified, were seen in several
flocks flying northward, roughly parallel to the Connecticut River; it
is unknown whether these flocks represented local movements or birds
moving longer distances upstream. The list of 19 species sighted
follows.
Mallard 4 2 pair in the water below Wilder Dam
Common Merganser 105 mainly flying over to the north; several in
the water below Wilder Dam. Total
unexpectedly high.
Bald Eagle 1 adult perched in a tree on the western (VT) side of the
Connecticut River
