This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, January 9th, 
2013.



An immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER has been coming to a feeder in Alexandria 
since December 13th, and was last reported on January 6th.



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen at the Portsmouth traffic circle with 
a flock of CANADA GEESE on December 29th, then seen again in North Mill Pond 
in Portsmouth on January 1st and 2nd, and relocated at the end of Marsh Lane 
in Portsmouth on January 6th. It has been seen with a flock of CANADA GEESE.



3 BRANT were reported from coastal Hampton on January 8th.



A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen on the Merrimack River in Manchester on 
December 30th, and has been several times since then. It was most recently 
reported near 250 Commercial Street on January 6th. A GREATER SCAUP and a 
GREAT CORMORANT have also been reported nearby.



A male and a female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE were seen off of Great Boar’s Head in 
Hampton on January 5th.



A female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen on Eel Pond in Rye on January 2nd, and 
again on the 6th and 7th.



A dark-morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was reported from coastal North Hampton on 
January 7th.



A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen on the Seabrook side of Hampton Harbor on January 
1st and 2nd, and again on the 7th.



4 ICELAND GULLS, a NORTHERN SHOVELER, a RUDDY DUCK, a WOOD DUCK, and 12 
LESSER SCAUP have been reported at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant 
since January 1st.



4 RAZORBILLS were seen from Great Island Common in New Castle on January 
6th, and 8 were seen from Hampton Beach State Park on the 6th, and 10 were 
seen off of Seabrook Beach on the 5th.



4 NORTHERN GANNETS, 15 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, and 2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS were 
reported from coastal Hampton on January 5th.



2 GADWALL and a WOOD DUCK were reported from Nashua on January 5th, and a 
female NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen in South Mill Pond in Portsmouth on January 
6th. A PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen in Portsmouth on January 6th.



6 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen on the north side of the Hampton Harbor inlet 
on January 6th.



PINE GROSBEAK sightings during the past week included: 8 in Hanover on 
January 7th, 11 in West Lebanon on the 6th, 18 in Manchester on the 4th, 23 
in Dover on the 9th, 20 in Plymouth on the 4th, 10 in Exeter on the 5th, 12 
in Concord on the 4th, 8 in Nashua on the 6th, 2 in Derry on the 6th, and 2 
in Portsmouth on the 5th.



COMMON REDPOLL sightings during the past week included: 150 in Stratham on 
January 6th, 50 in Hampton on the 6th, 50 in Lyme on the 7th, 40 in Exeter 
on the 5th, 35 in Bedford on the 7th, 25 in Spofford on the 9th, 20 in 
Roxbury on the 9th, and 20 in Merrimack on the 2nd.



BOHEMIAN WAXWING sightings during the past week included: 250 in Plymouth on 
January 4th, 50 in Ashland on the 7th, and 40 in Hanover on the 7th.



A flock of 60 SNOW BUNTINGS was seen in Greenland on January 4th, a flock of 
40 was seen in New Castle on the 6th, a flock of 15 was seen in Salem on the 
7th, a flock of 12 were seen in Hanover on the 6th, a flock of 10 was seen 
in Enfield Center on the 6th, a flock of 10 was seen in Plainfield on the 
6th, and 3 were seen in Peterborough on the 7th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Ashland on January 7th, and 1 was seen in 
Concord on the 5th.



A MERLIN was seen in Lebanon on January 4th.



A TURKEY VULTURE was seen in Nashua on January 5th, and again on the 8th.



A RUSTY BLACKBIRD and a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT were seen in Rye on January 6th.



A YELLOW BELLIED SAPSUCKER was seen in Nashua on January 4th.



A FOX SPARROW was reported from Exeter on January 6th.



A RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET was reported from Rochester on January 4th, and 1 was 
seen in Exeter on the 5th.



A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen in Hampton on January 5th.



A WINTER WREN was seen in New Castle, and 5 CAROLINA WRENS were seen along 
the coast, all on January 6th.



A CAROLINA WREN was reported from Lebanon on January 6th.



16 HORNED LARKS were reported from Durham on January 7th.
