This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, November 15th, 
2007.



A SNOWY OWL was seen near Wallis Sands in Rye on November 11th.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen in Penacook on November 11th.



A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE, a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, an ICELAND GULL, and 
10 RUDDY DUCKS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on 
November 13th. The treatment plant is gated and the hours of operation are 
7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the office and be 
out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have to ask birders 
to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the road. The Trails at 
Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not gated, and are always 
open during daylight hours.



NORTHERN SHRIKE sightings continue with 10 since the last Rare Bird Alert, 
including 2 at the Rochester Waste Water Treatment Plant on November 14th, 1 
in Hampton on the 12th, 1 at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Facility on the 
11th, 1 in Penacook on the 11th, 1 on Bald Hill Road in Albany on the 10th, 
1 along Route 101 in Hampton on the 10th, 1 in Franconia Notch on the 10th, 
1 in Durham on the 9th, and 1 on Martin Road in Fremont on the 9th.



PINE GROSBEAKS were reported from many locations during the past week, 
including over 40 in and around Hatch Plaza on Route 25 in Plymouth on 
November 9th, 8 at the Plymouth State University Field House on the 9th, 
over 30 on Quincy Road in Plymouth near the Rumney town line on the 14th, 8 
from Twin Mountain on the 10th, over 20 in Antrim on the 12th, and 7 from 
Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on the 8th. In addition, there have been 
scattered sightings of smaller numbers.



5 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen at Trudeau Road in Bethlehem on November 
10th, and a RED CROSSBILL was reported from the summit of Pack Monadnock in 
Peterborough on November 8th.



Flocks of COMMON REDPOLLS continue to be reported, with 60 at the Community 
Gardens off of Clinton Street in Concord on November 13th, 52 from Northwood 
Lake on the 12th, 16 in Warren on the 11th, and 72 at Pickering Ponds in 
Rochester on the 9th. In addition, there have been scattered sightings of 
smaller numbers.



Over 500 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on November 
11th, 35 were reported from Horseshoe Pond in Concord on the 9th, 20 were 
seen on Old Concord Road in Henniker on the 10th, and 37 were seen along the 
Cocheco River in Farmington on the 11th. In addition, there have been 
scattered sightings of smaller numbers.



A LAPLAND LONGSPUR, over 150 HORNED LARKS, and 20 KILLDEER were reported 
from Moore Fields on Route 155A in Durham on November 10th.



A flock of 11 EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in Warner on the 11th, and a flock 
of 8 was seen at a feeder in Manchester on the 8th.



350 HOODED MERGANSERS and 40 RING-NECKED DUCKS were reported from Long Pond 
in Penacook on November 12th.



132 AMERICAN COOTS and 65 GREEN-WINGED TEAL were reported from Powwow Pond 
in Kingston on November 10th.



95 GREATER SCAUP were seen on Great Bay on November 9th, and over 500 CANADA 
GEESE were reported from Great Bay on the 11th.



3 NORTHERN PINTAILS and 2 WILSON'S SNIPE were reported from Turkey Pond in 
Concord on November 8th.



12 BLACK SCOTERS were reported from Cherry Pond in Jefferson on November 
11th, 2 were seen on Turkey Pond in Concord on the 9th, and 2 were seen on 
Wilson Pond in Swanzey on November 8th.



6 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen on Landing Road in Hampton on November 
12th.



A hiker in Crawford Notch reported 3 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 6 COMMON REDPOLLS, a 
BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, and 5 GRAY JAYS from the Mount Webster, Mount 
Jackson, and AMC Mizpah Spring areas on November 12th.



A male BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen in the forest on Trudeau Road in 
Bethlehem on November 11th.



3 GRAY JAYS were seen on the Caps Ridge Trail in Jefferson Notch on November 
11th.



9 FOX SPARROWS were reported from a backyard in Derry on November 9th.



17 TURKEY VULTURES were seen roosting in Newmarket on November 11th.



Despite the late date, there were 3 separate sightings of OSPREY during the 
past week.
