Friends-
A couple of days ago, as I was heading to my car, a pileated woodpecker flew over
my head and landed on a sumac tree. Not where I would expect one to land. It
stayed there, motionless, for almost a minuted, and then inched its way upward
to the old berries, and began pecking at them. I believe it was eating them. Do
pileated woodpeckers eat fruits? If so, under what conditions would they choose
to eat fruit?
Thanks,
Bob
