This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, December 6th, 
2007.



An EARED GREBE was found at Seal Rocks in Rye on November 17th, and was last 
reported on December 3rd. This is the same location at which an EARED GREBE 
spent most of last winter.



2 HARLEQUIN DUCKS were seen in the salt marsh creek that flows into Rye 
Harbor, on December 3rd.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen in Jefferson on December 5th, and one was seen 
along the Squamscott River in Exeter, north of the Wastewater Treatment 
Plant on November 30th.



2 ICELAND GULLS were reported from the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant 
on December 5th. The treatment plant is gated and the hours of operation are 
7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the office and be 
out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have to ask birders 
to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the road. The Trails at 
Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not gated, and are always 
open during daylight hours.



A HOARY REDPOLL was seen among a flock of COMMON REDPOLLS near the Murray 
Farm greenhouses in Penacook on December 2nd.



COMMON REDPOLLS sightings during the past week included 40 along Route 118 
in Dorchester on December 5th, 18 in Jefferson on the 3rd, 65 on Depot Road 
in Hampton on the 2nd, 40 in Penacook on the 2nd, and 28 near Liberty Mutual 
in Dover on the 1st. In addition, there have been scattered sightings of 
smaller numbers during the past week.



BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS sightings during the past week included 240 at the 
Plymouth State University field house on December 2nd, and 200 at the 
Longacre Garden Supply along Route 4 in Lebanon on the 5th.



NORTHERN SHRIKE sightings continue with 10 since the last Rare Bird Alert, 
including birds in Hampton Falls (1), Concord (2), Peterborough (1), Chatham 
(1), Canaan (1), Whitefield(1), Etna (1), and Exeter (2).



PINE GROSBEAKS were reported from several locations during the past week, 
including 31 on Dort Road and 15 on Village Road, both in Surry on the 5th, 
23 at Hatch Plaza in Plymouth on the 4th, 10 in Durham near Mill Pond in 
Durham on the 5th, 12 at the South Meadow School in Peterborough on November 
30th, 7 in Penacook on December 2nd, 7 in Deering on the 2nd, and 3 in 
Chester on November 29th.



EVENING GROSBEAK sightings during the past week included a flock of 64 in 
Jefferson on December 3rd, a group of 6 in Durham on December 5th, and 5 in 
Croyden on November 30th.



SNOW BUNTING sightings during the past week included 6 in Hinsdale on 
December 5th, 9 in Rumney on the 4th, and 13 in Rye on the 2nd.



Over 100 HORNED LARKS were seen at Moore Fields on Route 155A in Durham on 
December 1st, 250 were seen near Chickering Road in Westmoreland on the 2nd, 
and over 100 were seen in East Conway on the 2nd. A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was 
reported from Moore Fields on November 30th.



A SNOW GOOSE was seen on Eel Pond in Rye on December 2nd, one was seen in 
Hollis on the 2nd, and one was reported from Salmon Brook in Nashua on the 
1st.



3 GREATER SCAUP were reported from the Connecticut River in Hinsdale, and a 
single LESSER SCAUP was seen in Spofford Lake, all on December 5th.



4 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were reported from Seal Rocks in Rye on December 1st.



17 AMERICAN PIPITS and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen near Chickering Road in 
Westmoreland on December 2nd.



A WINTER WREN was reported from Penacook on December 2nd, and one was seen 
in Derry on November 30th.



A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on 
December 2nd, and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen in Newton on November 30th.



An AMERICAN KESTREL was seen on Hardy Hill Road in Lebanon on November 9th, 
and a PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in East Conway on December 2nd.



Approximatedly 1,500 AMERICAN CROWS were seen flying in to roost in Hanover 
on November 30th.
