Today a mother pileated could be seen cleaning out her nest in an old
poplar on Meetinghouse Road, throwing leaves and chips out the door,
watching to see that no neighbors were complaining, and apparently
getting her house in order for a spring brood. Father pileated,
having no zeal for housekeeping, stood nearby on a branch waiting.
Spring continues to spring.
