An eagle watch is to be held on the Vermont side of the Wilder Dam
from 10 AM to noon on Saturday February 9, 2013. We'll also be looking
for any other kinds of birds which can be detected from that area.
This eagle watch, arranged by the Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire
Audubon, is free and open to the public. Participants may come and go
as they wish at any time. Leaders Blake Allison and George Clark plan
to be there from 10:00 AM to noon. Bring binoculars and scopes if
available. This excursion involves relatively little walking, and
therefore participants may wish to dress especially warmly. In case of
inclement weather or hazardous driving conditions on that Saturday,
the eagle watch is to be postponed until the same hours on Sunday
February 10.
Road instructions: From Exit 12 off I-91 in Wilder, VT, turn east
toward Route 5. On reaching Route 5 (Hartford Avenue), turn left.
Continue to the fourth right, turning onto Depot Street. Take the next
left (onto Norwich Ave.), and then an immediate right going over the
new bridge to Passumpsic Avenue. At Passumpsic Avenue turn right
toward the Wilder Dam. Park in the first parking lot on the right and
then walk downhill to the viewing area by the last (3rd) parking lot.
(Alternatively, drive directly to the 3rd lot where you may park if it
has been plowed out and if parking spaces remain. (Please note that
the Gillette Street bridge in Wilder is currently closed for
reconstruction.)
