At the Wilder Dam boat launch, early this afternoon (Oct. 12), one male Black Scoter was upstream and another downstream. I might have expected them to be together but that was not the case.

Below the overlook downstream from Wilder Dam early this afternoon, a Great Cormorant was perched one rock while a Double-crested Cormorant perched on a nearby rock. This is presumably the same Great Cormorant which has been present in the vicinity of Wilder Dam since first reported by Chris Rimmer on September 3 and seen by many birders in the meantime.

Because the Connecticut River covers the boundary between NH and VT, it is quite possible if not likely that the scoters and cormorants were in NH, though seen from VT.

In mid morning today, a Rusty Blackbird with its light colored iris and distinctive coloration was perched in the tree row between the corn field and river at Campbell Flats in Norwich. Part of the time the bird was giving its characteristic "rusty hinge" calls.
