This AM, After dragging ourselves out of bed, we headed for the west
side of North Springfield Dam to the edge of the airport for Pine and
Paririe Warblers and a shot at the Grasshopper Sparrow there, then
over to Springweather Nature Area. The sparrow is now almost
impossible with the increased security against birders there.
However, the Palms and Prairies are easily accessible and singing
away. Disturbing was the number of cowbirds, which seemed to mob
almost every warbler that was around. Not a good sign. A good day
for raptors, with a Broad-winged and Red-shouldered Hawk. No eagles
in the nest. Lists are from e-bird.

Don't forget the bird walk at the prison fields next Saturday
morning, followed up at 10 AM with a "community engagement" meeting
concerning the fate of this property. It is important that the State
get a sense of how important we all feel maintaining this property in
its current condition is, not only to the birding community but as an
open, natural area.If you have questions on the 6 AM bird walk at the
fields, e-mail Phil Morgan, AMAS field trip coordinator, at
