This evening in the Foley Point area of Norwich by the Ledyard Bridge,
Doug Hardy and I saw one Common Nighthawk a little after seven and two
about 15 minutes later. These birds appeared to be foraging as opposed
to migrating. They came from upstream down to around the bridge and
flew about over the river and adjacent uplands and eventually
disappeared while moving away in the upstream direction from which
they had first appeared.
Highlights among other bird species in that vicinity this evening
included a Green Heron, 10 Canada Geese, 3 Wood Ducks, and 3 Baltimore
Orioles.
