Does anyone know how large a territory Scarlet Tanagers stake out? I ask because
on a recent run around the Oak Hill ski trails I heard and saw four male Scarlet
Tanagers. The second and third sightings were likely the same bird, as they were
in fairly close proximity, but the third and fourth sightings were nearly two
kilometers apart (the third was at the most remote point of the Outback Loop,
while the fourth was along the final descent into the stadium), and the first
and second were also a good distance apart. I have been hearing a Scarlet Tanager
singing near the beginning of the descent into the stadium fairly regularly, where
the fourth sighting occurred, but the others were a pleasant surprise.
