On Monday, March 15, in East Plainfield, NH, Peter and I observed at least
15 turkeys making their way across our dead-end dirt road, through our
dooryard and down the hill into the woods.
While in the dooryard one tom was displaying when another one entered the
area, also displaying. The first immediately changed his focus from the hens
to the "intruder", seemingly puffing himself up even more, with his wings
spread and brushing on the ground, advancing towards the second bird. The
latter soon lowered his tail and turned his attention to food gleaning on
the ground. The first one continued to display.
