A solitary, male white-winged scoter was observed Tuesday on the Connecticut River about 100 yards north of the Lyme Bridge on River Road. The bird was seen at ten a.m. and again at 4 p.m. the same afternoon. It stayed towards the river's center and did not mingle with any of the numerous groups of waterfowl present.
In addition to the scoter were seen--
snow goose - 105
Canada goose - 150
wood duck - 12
American black duck - 4
mallard - 24
common merganser - 3
blue jay - 2
American crow - 2
American robin - 1
common grackle - 18
song sparrow - 2
No hoped for pink-footed goose.
