Saturday on the west side of Lake Runnemede along the sunny path, I saw a GB Heron on the path ahead of me--50 yards? I stopped and it tolerated my presence, then continued to hunt. It was looking down into the sunny shallows of the water. It moved slowly along watching for prey, also watching me. When I seemed to be coming along a little too quickly, it walked towards the marsh away from the lake. When I stopped, it moved back to the path and to spotting prey. Soon the heron caught a frog. Then it stepped down into the water where it swished the frog off repeatedly, then swallowed it. The heron stepped back up onto the path and continued its perusal of the shallows. Finally I was ready to move pass it, so the bird flew only a very short distance across water to wait near a stick pile and watch me as I passed.
