I birded a few locations in Hanover and Thetford yesterday morning. Highlights
included an Osprey flyover at Ledyard Bridge, a Common Loon right under the Ledyard
Bridge -- despite preparations for a rowing event, with camera crews setting up
and rowing shells going up and down the river, the loon appeared utterly oblivious
to all the commotion, a Northern Parula on the Mystery Trail (in a spot where
I have often heard them in previous years), a singing towhee at the Doyle property
on Goodfellow Road, a Broad-winged Hawk circling over Houghton Hill marsh, and
an American Bittern at the marsh along the Mystery Trail.
A query for those who have managed to get out more than I have this spring: I
have seen comparatively few swallows of any species this spring, but an unusual
number of Chimney Swifts -- it seems that every time I step outside, I hear Chimney
Swifts skittering overhead. Has anyone else noticed this?
