This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, April 14th,
2010.
A ROYAL TERN was seen and photographed in Hampton Harbor on April 10th.
A WHITE-EYED VIREO was seen off of Route 101 in Hampton in the parking lot
adjacent to the local church, and opposite the water tower, on April 14th.
A SANDHILL CRANE was seen in fields off of West Portsmouth Street in Concord
on April 8th and 9th.
A BLACK VULTURE was seen flying with 3 TURKEY VULTURES in Auburn on April
12th.
A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Hampton Harbor on April11th.
A COMMON TEAL, the EURASIAN race of the GREEN-WINGED TEAL, was seen at
Herricks Cove on the Connecticut River on April 11th. Herrick's Cove is
located where the Williams River enters the Connecticut River north of
Bellows Falls. A COMMON TEAL was also seen on Meadow Pond in Hampton on
April 8th.
7 LESSER SCAUP were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on April
7th, and again on the 10th.
A RED-THROATED LOON was seen on Spofford Lake in Chesterfield on April 3rd,
and again on the 14th, and a RED-NECKED GREBE was seen here on April 9th.
2 PIPING PLOVERS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on April 11th.
4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at Ponemah Bog in Amherst on April 12th.
A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was reported from Bedford on April 11th.
2 FISH CROWS were reported from Hampton Beach State Park, and 2 were seen in
Nashua, all on April 11th.
Several EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported during the past week, including 2
from Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham on April 11, and 4 from Newport on
the 15th.
Early-returning spring migrant species reported during the past week
included: PIED-BILLED GREBE, DUNLIN, SANDERLING, BORAD-WINGED HAWK, MERLIN,
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, PALM WARBLER, BROWN THRASHER,
VESPER SPARROW, and EASTERN TOWHEE.
