This morning's overall highlight was discovering that ice on the
Connecticut River's main channel had gone out overnight. Canada Geese
and Mallards were scattered from Ledyard Bridge up to Kendall Station,
and a single drake Ring-necked Duck was at Kendall.

Highlights at Campbell Flats were a singing Eastern Bluebird, 2 singing
Fox Sparrows, and a non-vocal Swamp Sparrow.

At the Coop fields in Norwich, a male woodcock strutted his stuff at
dusk, peenting and displaying in courtship flight, in the unmowed patch
adjacent to the brushy wetland just north of the community garden. This
has been a reliable spot to witness the display in recent years.
