To my surprise and delight, barn swallows arrived this weekend, about a
week ahead of time compared to last year, and before tree swallows. I
have seen tree swallows at the Dartmouth Skiway Pond, but none in my
yard, which is unusual.
I also have a first-time visitor - a male ring-necked pheasant. Does the
state release pheasant for hunting (so I have been told)?
Other noted arrivals over the weekend: Eastern phoebe, Yellow-bellied
sapsucker, Northern Flicker, Chipping Sparrow.
I have reluctantly, but wisely, taken down my bear - I mean -
birdfeeders.
