This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, September 
25th, 2013.



A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD has been seen visiting a birdfeeder at a private 
residence in Durham on September 22nd and 24th.



A CLAPPER RAIL was seen and photographed in the marsh located on the west 
side of Route 1A opposite Wallis Sands in Rye on September 24th.



A BLUE GROSBEAK in brown plumage was seen at the Concord Community Gardens 
along Birch Lane off of Clinton Street in Concord on September 23rd.



5 DICKCISSELS were reported during the past week, including 1 in Pittsfield 
on September 25th, 1 at the cornfields behind the US Post Office on Loudon 
Road in Concord on the 25th, 1 at the Concord Community Gardens along Birch 
Lane off of Clinton Street in Concord on the 20th and 22nd, 1 in Freedom on 
the 21st, and 1 at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on the 21st.



2 CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were reported from Hinsdale on September 23rd.



There have been numerous sightings of WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS along with a 
few sightings of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and LINCOLN’S SPARROWS during the 
past week. Of particular note were 17 LINCOLN’S SPARROWS tallied at the 
fields of Sherman Farm in East Conway on September 25th.



A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was seen along the CONNECTICUT RIVER in Hinsdale on 
September 22nd.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on 
September 21st.



There were several reports of PHILADELPHIA VIREO, CAPE MAY WARBLER, 
TENNESSEE WARBLER, WILSON’S WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, and AMERICAN PIPIT during 
the past week.



A LITTLE GULL, and 2 CASPIAN TERNS were seen from Odiorne Point State Park 
in Rye on September 21st.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKD GULL was seen near Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on 
September 24th.



A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER was seen at Hampton Beach State Park, and a WHIMBREL was 
seen near the north end of Hampton Beach, both on September 19th.



2 WESTERN SANDPIPERS were seen on Foss Beach in Rye on September 22nd, and a 
flock of 5 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS was seen in Rochester on September 24th.



2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 3 AMERICAN WIGEON, a NORTHERN PINTAIL, 15 BLUE-WINGED 
TEAL and 10 GREEN-WINGED TEAL were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment 
Plant on September 21st.



A late-migrating COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen in Salem on September 20th.



A pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS was seen roosting in downtown Concord on 
September 19th.



RAPTOR migration is under way with nearly 9,000 migrating raptors already 
reported from the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in 
Peterborough, and over 9,500 reported from the Carter Hill Observatory in 
Concord, all since September 1st. Be sure to visit these New Hampshire 
Audubon sponsored observatories this fall season to help out with the count!
